BORN: SEOUL, KOREA
I wasn’t aware of the fact that I was Korean because I lived in Korea. Of course, it was very normal to be Korean. But, then I decided to become an actor and I moved to Los Angeles where I’m attending USC’s acting MFA graduate program. I’m now learning what it means to be Korean.
I’ve started looking back at my history and I’m learning how important it is to know myself. I takes a lot of effort, but it’s important and I have to try learn where I came from in order to share who I am.
I’m 29 right now. I came to America in 2012. But I lived in North Carolina for two years when I was 9 or 10. I started learning English then. I always had a thing for singing so when I went back to Korea, I kept listening to Western music. My father is a lawyer. He was very tough and he wouldn’t give me money for music. So I had to somehow get the music illegally. I wanted to know the lyrics so I listened every day and wrote down the lyrics. I think it trained my ear to listen and hear and I think that’s really how I picked up English.
